The PC release of Saints Row 2 will use Steam as its verification system.
Having been given a release date of 'the first week of January' 2009 for the PC port, it has also been revealed that the game will be using Steam as its only form of DRM, which will please many PC gamers.
THQ Mod V-Singular posted on the official Saints Row forum:"Essentially, Steam will be a verification system for the retail version.
Steam will also have an offer to digitally download SR2 to a player's system if they don't want to leave the confines of their house. If you have a retail version, Steam is only going to verify that you have a real copy of the game when you are first installing and launching the game.
We're trying to use a very low impact DRM here, since we've seen some of the headaches faced by other major game releases in recent months."
Having personally played the original Xbox 360 version of Saints Row 2, I can assure you with full Steamfriends certification that as long as the PC port is similar to the 360 version (and not a buggy mess á la GTA4) then this is going to be an essential purchase to start 2009 with a bang. We'll make sure we have a full review ready for you as soon as possible.
