Source Engine and Steam Coming to Linux?

There have been rumors since last year that Valve may be serious about porting Source games to Linux after Valve Software began seeking a senior software engineer with the responsibility of porting Windows-based games to the Linux platform. Valve Software has yet to officially announce Linux clients for any of its software, but Phoronix has received information confirming that Valve is indeed porting its very popular Source engine to the Linux platform. 	#3 - Olly - May 08, 2008 13:56 Yea, more and more games are coming with opengl support (UT3, QuakeWars: ET to name a few). TF2/HL2/CSS Already runs great with emulation though the Wine windows emulator for linux, but if the games become native to unix, then there is sure to be a performance boost.

I think the software engineer job where they "port games to linux" means porting parts of the engine to linux, which they have already done for the linux servers. Therefore I think this is more to do with the servers than the actual game client

(Postal3'll be available on Linux and OSX too, and it'll be based on the Source) If the guys at valve have some sense of marketing, they do this. But remember "valve time"... An update has been released for the steam client, and will be downloaded automatically when the client is restarted. The features such as the ability block all communications from another user that were being tested in the recent steam client beta have now been implemented fully into steam with this update.
