After the Steam beta client was released last night, a Steam forum user has discovered a possible way for Steam going Mac OSX. After the drop of Internet Explorer, replacing it by Webkit on Steam, a lot of things have changed in the backend and there might be possibilities for both a Linux and Mac OS version of Steam.
The Steam user found some files in the file system and located a few icons which are not only named “osx_” but appear to be the traditional window controls for Mac environments. There is also an osx.menu file in the C:\~\Steam\Resource\Menus, which contains definitions for standard OSX menus.
The question that remains now….. is this just something that belongs to the Webkit or is it really going to support other operating systems in the future? And if so, will the games run on other platforms aswell?
As always, its a matter of time……
